I Will Be Like Mike
I am dunking a basketball by New Years. I am a white, 5’7, 155 lb young man with an 18-inch vertical. Not the best genetic leg-up for dunking. Not only that, I am a BJJ athlete who is a fight technique nerd interested in engineering, history, exercise science and nutrition.
Things are going GREAT. The main focus these past two months have been improving my lifting numbers (focus on squat and deadlift) and getting enough jumps in. Now that my vertical has been steadily increasing, I have to get comfortable with the basketball. Holding it, playing, shooting layups, dunking on shorter hoops. I’m doing it ALL. I can increase my vert all I want, but if am not comfortable with the basketball in my hands, that ball will never go through. In a similar vein to this article:

Moving in every way possible has become integral. Not every jump is going to be perfect, but I’m going to make sure that I can make imperfect work regardless. The more reps I put in, the easier it will get. Though “Jumpers Knee” is an issue on my mind, a few things are mitigating this potential problem:
My programming is stellar, and periodized
Collagen supplementation + ample bone broth intake
Diet + Supplementation (Electrolyte salts, magnesium chloride spray, NIR / IR Lighting, ample Omega-3 intake with daily salmon)
Excitement and fun. I am excited to prove these shit talkers wrong at every turn.
I have 4 months left until new years and with the progress I have made: my dunk is imminent. My 5’7 ass is gonna hoof my way up to that hoop. Day by day I become one with the ball, one with my body as I learn to float through the air. No longer crashing to the ground like a newly hatched chick. I’m starting to grow wings. I am going to fly. If your friends are talking shit about what you can and can’t do. PROVE THEM WRONG! I’m gonna be lining my pockets with their $1200 soon enough. Just like anything in life, you have to bet on yourself, and for the first time I truly feel like I am. I am putting maximum efforts towards this goal in the same way I have begun to approach submission grappling and the Movement MArtials. It will happen. It is an absolute certainty.
Every training session I say the same things which I know to be true. Those that doubt me are stupid, ugly motherfuckers. No two ways about it. Ugly, sad, and pale motherfuckers that are too stupid to believe. I am tan, beautiful, and am going to be a world fucking champion. They are creating a fucking monster. An aesthetic, high-flying, choke machine of a man, who will not be stopped. Their shit talking is simply fuel to the fire inside my belly.
